Currently Vice Chairman and Trustee of the British Army’s National Charity, one of the UK’s largest military charities, which supports serving soldiers, veterans and their families when they are in need. Responsible for the Charity’s marketing, communications and fundraising activities and member of the Governance committee. 

ITV plc. 2011 – 2018
Group Communications and Corporate Affairs Director and member of the Management Board. Advised the Chief Executive and Board on reputation and regulatory risk, crisis and change communications, policy and political affairs, media and stakeholder engagement and internal communications. As a key member of the MB helped ITV adapt and thrive through a period of unparalleled change in the UK television and wider media sector.

Royal Mail Group. 2003 – 2010
Corporate and Government Affairs Director and member of the Management Board, reporting to the Chief Executive. Devised and executed communications and engagement strategy during a period of fundamental structural and cultural change prior to privatisation of the business. Advised Board and other senior colleagues on strategic and crisis communications, change communications, reputational and regulatory risk, and on all aspects of media, politics, and stakeholder engagement.

 

Mary is an accomplished communications specialist with 14 years’ experience in major corporate communications and public affairs roles, sitting on the Management Boards first of the Royal Mail Group and subsequently ITV plc. She is Vice Chairman of The Army’s National Charity, where she also chairs the Marketing and Fundraising Board sub-committee and sits on the Governance Committee. She has proven track record of advising at Board level on strategic and change communications, reputation and crisis management, stakeholder advocacy, and regulatory, political and policy issues. Prior to her corporate career, Mary worked for over two decades as a business and finance journalist on titles including The Sunday Telegraph, where she was Deputy City Editor, The Independent, The Evening Standard and New Scientist.
